Historically, Jeollanam-do has been a town that has prosperedthrough its brilliant farming culture and advancedagriculture on its fertile land with its warm climate.
The Jeollanam-do Agriculture Museum was opened on Sep. 24, 1993 to strengthen the features of the agricultural region, investigating, collecting, maintaining and exhibiting traditional farming culture and the artifacts that are gradually disappearing through the modernization process as well as to help our descendants properly understand the traditional cultures of Korea.
The Jeollanam-do Agriculture Museum takes the initiative in the investigation, distribution and promotion of Korean traditional farming culture through its Academic Research Office, which heads upthe investigation of farming culture, collection of data, maintenance and exhibition ofartifacts, planningof special exhibitions, and execution of academic research and cultural education programs. It also provides events and promotional activities and operates an administration office for the management of the buildings.
The Jeollanam-do Agriculture Museum was built on an area of 36,922㎡;6,052㎡ for its buildings and 2,423㎡for exhibition space. The exhibition space includes the Agriculture Exhibition Hall, Life and Folk Culture of the Southern Region, the Rice Museum and an outdoor exhibition space. The experience centers include an Agriculture Experience Center(180㎡) and Agriculture Park(138,612㎡).
